Homework before School

So as you all know T-bones will be going to junior high (6th grade) this year. We went to registration today and his Geography teacher said to go onto his website because they had homework to do before they went back to school on Tuesday September 2nd. So here it is, it made me feel really dumb because I do not know the answer to a lot of the questions. You tell me if this looks hard to you.

6th Grade WC&G Review
1. Give 5 ways you can determine which direction is North.
2. Name at least 5 things that should be included on most all maps.
3. Which are better – globes or maps? Give at least 2 reasons why each one is.
4. Name 5 kinds of maps.
5. Why do we have four seasons in Michigan? (Give 2 reasons if you can.)
6. Ann Arbor is at about _________latitude and _________ Longitude.
7. Sketch a world map and label all the continents and oceans.
8. What are the five themes of geography?
9. Pick one theme and give a specific example of how it’s important.

11. Sketch a map of Canada and label the provinces and territories.

19. What is the economic term that explains why prices keep going up over time?
20. Give a reason for and a reason against free trade, such as with NAFTA.
21. Sketch a map of Central America and label the countries.
22. List at least 5 countries or islands in the Caribbean.
23. Sketch a map of South America and label the countries, a big river and mountain range.
24. Name 3 great ancient civilizations in Latin America.
25. Name some traditional foods in Central America26. In what parts of Latin America do Hurricanes occur?

36. a. Why are the seasons in Australia opposite to those in the U.S.? b. In Austalia, where would you see the Big Dipper? Why? What might you see instead?

38. How is an atoll related to a lagoon?
39. Name three arguments scientists give to support the Global Warming theory. What do they attribute the cause to? What might be the consequences if this trend continues?

Did the teacher leave anything else for the kids to go over for the rest of the year, or did he just decide he would throw it at them all at once. Holy cow! T-bones defnitely has his work cut out for him. I hope you are all getting a great review this week of world geography. That really bites. How are plans coming for Princess' birthday? I totally miss you guys. We need to get together. Tonight is my last night of 6 in a row. I'm really hoping that by some miracle I will get called off. Call me and let me know how life is going.
